One or two things before I go

I’m sure this seems like a strange way to start the day, but instead of saying Good Morning, I’m here to say Goodbye.

It’s been quite a joy ride for me here in The Mom Blog, with many twists and turns, but now I am heading in another direction. (How’s that for loading a sentence up with road trip metaphors? I didn’t call this Blog on Board for nothing.)

I’m leaving The Mom Blog and OC Moms for another assignment at OCregister.com: I’ll be writing Morning Reads and other stories for our Life page.

As part of my new gig, I’m contributing an occasional  feature called Tell Me About It, an as-told-to with Orange County folks who’ll talk about a slice of their lives — funny, sad, inspirational, whimsical, insightful, whatever. I’ve done one already, with a Fullerton woman whose young child has cerebral palsy and husband has multiple sclerosis. If you’d like to suggest someone for me to interview, send me an e-mail.

Look for my byline!

You moms will be in good hands: Amy Stevens, who has already been posting here the past couple of weeks, will be your new Mom-in-Chief.

Before I call it quits, I wanted to bring you up to date on  a couple of personal matters:

1) This is no-coffee month in my Rotating Lent. I knew this would be the most difficult of six months that I have been depriving myself of one goodie or another. Every day for pretty much the first week in June, I completely forgot I was not supposed to be drinking coffee. I’d remember after the caffeine kicked in. But I got myself on track and while I admit to have knowingly cheated twice since renewing my vow, it’s gotten easier. I sure miss the Morning Joe, though.

2) Today I’ll put my son on a plane and become an empty-nester while he bites into the Big Apple. It took him a year after graduating high school but the lad is finally heading off on the road to higher education at a two-year drama conservatory in New York City. He is an aspiring thespian. That’s an even tougher profession than journalism, but his heart is set on it and, who knows, he just might make it there. Believe me, I’ll let you know if he does!

So, goodbye to all you wonderful moms. I’ll miss engaging with you here. Take care.
